My magazine is going to be called “Seein' Sounds”, with my tagline currently undecided; however I have been torn between the two ideas of “Outside the Box” and “Your Only Multi-genre Magazine”. It becomes apparent that today’s magazines all unfortunately revolve around one genre. Here are some examp

These are all very good examples of genre specific magazines, however as an A/S media student, I feel that in this day and age, successful media is all about challenging the norm and being different, so this is exactly what I hope to do with my magazine. I am planning to create one of the world’s first multi genre magazines, featuring many different articles on many different genres. One of the main disadvantages of this are that there might not be a lot of things to a certain readers fancy and this may prevent them from purchasing. However, I feel that the advantages of creating a multi genre magazine are much more rewarding. Not only would it be recognised as a boundary breaker, but it would also widen the target audience hugely as it will attract those from many different places, with different tastes and views on music. In a way, I am hoping to unite music lovers and consolidate their differences with the thing that matters the most to them – music. For instance, if an R&B lover buys this magazine for the featured R&B article, and then reads the INDIE article, it is more than likely that they will not only be enlightened into another genre, but hopefully also impressed – they may even be converted into liking this genre! This is not only pushing the boundaries of music tastes, but it also being quite challenging in terms of music stereotypes, maybe if all magazines were multi genre, there would be no stereotypes! This is why I think “Outside the Box” is a suitable title, because I feel that that is what I am aiming for my magazine to be, however, if I use the tagline “Your only Multi-Genre Magazine” then I am not only addressing the reader personally, making them feel more involved, but I am also pointing out the fact that it is a multi-genre magazine in the instance that this had gone un noticed. Also in terms of lexis, by using the world only, I am making this magazine sound attractive and unique, something that all magazines strive to be, the attractive alliteration of the use of the letter M makes it more verbally appealing.
